Not only can you improve your career possibilities by completing our Online CHW Training, but you might also be eligible to get paid for the time you spend learning! The governor has identified a need to drastically increase the number of health care providers and navigators, especially Community Health Workers. To encourage people to enter the field the State of California is offering numerous incentive programs including those below.
CalGrows
CalGrows is a program for unlicensed caregivers who:
- Live and provide care in California
- Work in a home- or community-based setting*
- Are a paid caregiver** or provide unpaid care to friends or family
- Unpaid family and friend caregivers are eligible for courses and coaching, but not incentives
*Examples of home- and community-based settings include Adult Day Care, AIDS Waiver, Assisted Living Waiver, Caregiver Resource Centers, Community-Based Adult Services, Home- and Community-Based Alternatives Waiver (HCBA), Multipurpose Senior Services Program (MSSP), Program for All Inclusive Care for the Elderly (PACE), Residential Care Facilities for the Elderly (RCFE), and others.
**Examples of eligible paid caregivers include Home Care Aides, Care Coordinators or Care Managers, Dementia Care Specialists, Care Coordinators, Transportation Providers, Community Health Workers, non-IHSS affiliated/personal care assistants, and other unlicensed care workers.
CalGrows is not intended for caregivers who:
- Work only in institutional settings such as hospitals, nursing homes, health care settings
- Are licensed (such as an RNs or LVNs) or certified as an HHA
- Are an IHSS provider who has participated in the Career Pathways program and/or does not hold another paid caregiving position

Who Is Eligible
Residents of California who intend to work in an eligible job role in a home- or community-based setting in California
Because Caring4Cal addresses the current and future demand in California for care providers in Home- and Community-Based Services (HCBS), the following job settings do not qualify for participation:
- Hospitals (e.g., rehabilitation, long-term care, and psychiatric hospitals)
- Nursing homes
- Inpatient facilities
- Outpatient facilities
- Intermediate care facilities
