The mission of the Access to Care Collaborative (ACC) is to bring healthcare services to low-income, working, uninsured adults in the San Fernando Valley.

The Access to Care Collaborative includes:

Since the project’s dynamic start in 2001, the Access to Care Collaborative (ACC) has taken impressive strides toward providing health services to the uninsured, currently working through the MEND free clinic in Pacoima. ACC continually recruits volunteers that expand the free clinic's open hours and capacity, including:

  • Physicians (both generalists and specialists are needed)
  • Nurses
  • Pharmacists
  • Administrators
  • Translators
Health Care Professionals

We need your help. Los Angeles County is in the midst of a healthcare crisis. California has one of the highest levels of uninsured individuals in the nation. Often, these individuals are working but their employer does not offer health benefits, or they simply cannot afford it. They work hard, they have a family and they must continue to be able to provide for their family – a responsibility that an untreated medical ailment can get in the way of.

It is with the volunteer services of physicians, nurses, pharmacists and other ancillary volunteers that we are able to offer services –working against the disparities of healthcare access one patient at a time.

The Access to Care/MEND free care clinic is located in Pacoima at 10641 San Fernando Road.

How to Volunteer

We rely on the generous donation of time and expertise to provide care for our patients who have little or no access to care—and are typically working and poor.

Frequently Asked Questions

Question: Why is the Access to Care Collaborative only active in the Pacoima area?

Answer: The Access to Care Collaborative was born out of the alliance of the free care clinic of Meet Each Need with Dignity (MEND) and therefore it started in the Pacoima area. Though we are making plans to expand the program’s scope and service area, we still operate out of the MEND clinic. This program depends on the generosity of its volunteers, and its expansion will require greater recruitment and collaboration with other charitable organizations.

Question: Whey are the services provided by the Access to Care Collaborative so crucial?

Answer: ACC offers care to a growing population of hard-working individuals and families who have no health insurance. California has one of the highest levels of uninsured individuals in the nation – about one in five. Many of these individuals are working but their employer does not offer health benefits, or they simply cannot afford it. They work hard, they have a family and they must continue to be able to provide for their family – a responsibility that an untreated medical ailment can get in the way of. Through our free, volunteer-based clinic in Pacoima, we offer services to people in need – working against the disparities of healthcare access one patient at a time.

Question: Why are specialists important to the ACC?

Answer: Our Free Clinic offers primary care, but often patients need a degree of specialty care that the Clinic cannot provide. ACC strives to coordinate this kind of care for patients with the help of volunteer specialist physicians. We welcome inquiries from specialists of all areas who may be interested in helping to provide specialty care or consultation.
