PRESS RELEASE: Partners in Care Foundation Applauds Governor Schwarzenegger and the California Legislature on Passage of Our State Budget

Statement of: W. June Simmons, CEO Partners in Care Foundation (www.picf.org)

Partners in Care Foundation applauds today’s action by Governor Schwarzenegger and members of the Legislature on reaching agreement to bring about a bipartisan budget for California and averting a greater financial crisis in our state. We recognize that no budget is without concessions but we are hopeful that health care system reform can proceed in earnest now that the impasse is behind us.

Partners is vitally interested in reforming our health care system by extending access to managed care to aged, blind and disabled Medi-Cal recipients and integrating their Medicare benefits. Better coordination will enable beneficiaries to access enhanced prevention programs, necessary services for independent living, and appropriate medical care through a model that has been proven to reduce health care costs.

Passage of the state budget now makes it possible for us to move ahead to create a health care system that works better for everyone. Partners will continue to work alongside other agencies and individuals on this vitally important effort to shape a health care system that works for all Californians.
